About the Winchester Chamber of Commerce

A letter from Chamber President Paul Sughrue:

2007 was another exciting and busy year for the Winchester Chamber of Commerce. Membership continued to grow (we are up to 220 members!) as more and more businesses realize the many benefits that the Chamber provides Winchester businesses. After all, our primary mission is to support the business community in Winchester.

How does the Chamber of Commerce support Winchester business? One major way is to help beautify the downtown area. As we have for several years, the Chamber partnered with the Winchester Garden Clubs resulting in beautiful Hanging Baskets that graced our center from springtime through the end of September. I think you would agree with me that this year they were particularly stunning. The Chamber also partnered with the Garden Clubs and held another Garden Tour in June. The Chamber has also been behind the replacement of town benches outside of Starbuck’s and at the bridge. Lastly, the Chamber funds the entire Holiday Lighting.

In addition to town beautification, the Chamber also supports the local business community by working closely with the Board of Selectmen to help maintain an economically attractive business climate. Chamber Board members attend all selectmen’s meetings and twice a year the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen is invited to speak at a Chamber Board meeting to give us an update on all matters of importance to the business community. This open line of communication with town government is a key benefit to our entire membership and is exemplified by the successful retention of the current level tax rate for commercial property and the addressing of parking issues which resulted in many key changes that were pro business.

Thank you for your continued membership in the Winchester Chamber of Commerce. It is important for you to know that 50% of our annual revenues are membership dues so your membership is very important to our being able to continue our mission. Our monthly Board of Director meetings are always held the first Wednesday of every month at 8:00am at Winchester Savings Bank and you are always welcome to attend!

As the Chamber President, I look forward to getting to know you and working on your behalf. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Paul Sughrue
President
